Ceiling Falls: Aid Magruder Drama Students
Donation protected
Last weekend, the Magruder High School drama department "brought the house down" unexpectedly during the spring musical of Once Upon A Mattress. Mid-performance (2nd night of a 4 performance run), a chunk of the ceiling fell but the show went on, with performers not missing a beat. By Monday, the auditorium was deemed unsafe until repairs are made and by Tuesday, we we took the show on the road to a new "home" so the kids could give their final two performances.
It has been remarkable to see what took these kids (and staff) months to build be deconstructed/reconstructed in just a few days! But, this does not come without financial cost. There are unexpected expenses (that may or may not be covered by the school system) and certainly, ticket sales and concession sales are impacted that affects monies available for next year's production rights costs, planned upgrades to sound equipment, and post-production events happening this spring (e.g., drama banquet where we celebrate the year's successes).
The "drama mamas" (and pops) are asking the community to ease the financial strain by doing what our community does best -- support however you can. If you can come to the show, performances are March 14 and 15 at 7pm, Shady Grove Middle School on Mid-County Highway. If seeing these kids in action is not possible, consider making a financial contribution here buying "tickets of support."
It isn't lost on these kids. They see how parents showed up with trucks and drills, community members they've never seen before showing up with trailers and lighting equipment to make this work. It is incredibly moving. We invite you to be a part of this story...
Proceeds from this fundraiser will be transferred to Drama's Parent Liaison, with the intention of focusing on the immediate needs first followed by any "extra funding" allocated to support the drama club's return to the HS stage.
With gratitude!
