Al Frisby’s Celebration of Life - Save the Date!

The event will occur on March 1, 2025, at the VFW on Seventh Avenue in Santa Cruz from roughly 4 PM ~ 9 PM.

I’m including a guest list sign-up to help plan food and schedule required security. The VFW has a capacity of 150 people, so please make sure you RSVP on the attached spreadsheet, which will become the guest list. We’ll use the guest list at the door because we are full once 150 people show up.

There is also a column to indicate if you would like to reserve a time slot to play music, share a remembrance, tell a story, or share anything else with Al‘s greater family.

The event will be catered by Mission St/Aptos BBQ and India Joze Restaurant, but we could use help with decorations. If you can volunteer to decorate or help clean up, please let me know on the spreadsheet.

Please feel free to contact me through this page or on Al's Facebook page.

Thank you so much to those of you who have been able to contribute to this event. Please continue to share this link with others interested in contributing and/or attending.

I will keep you posted with further details as we approach March 1.

For any of you who didn't see this posting already, here it is again:
The spirit of Al J Frisby III took flight into the great beyond early this morning (Wednesday, 11/13/24). After breathing once per minute for days on end, his breathing picked up to 12 breaths per minute last night. I believe he was sprinting towards the finish line to gain momentum for takeoff. We had begun to wonder if Al was somehow going to make a grand return, but this will only happen in the spiritual dimension.

Nothing Al did was ever mundane, typical, or run-of-the-mill. Six days ago, I was called to Al's bedside because he was "imminent." The hospital staff could not believe how long Al kept on keeping on. I informed them they had never encountered the likes of Al Frisby, and their estimations and assumptions were pure folly.

I'm no poet, but below are some words I scribbled down during the long hours at Al's bedside while recounting stories, playing music, and sitting in prayer. The words barely scratch the surface of who Al was and what he represented to me.

More information will follow regarding a celebration to honor Al's life. Now comes the time to deal with everything Al couldn't tolerate nor put up with, the system and bureaucracy, which I will joyfully do in his honor.

Please let me know if anyone in Santa Cruz who reads this has connections with a venue with audio-visual capabilities and room for 150-200. It may require asking for a shared contribution to cover expenses at some point, but it will be well worth bringing us all together to listen to Al's music once more, share laughter and tears, and offer thanks for being a part of his time on Earth.

Light a candle and say a prayer for Al Frisby,

In divine peace,

Al's buddy,
Ken

Last Days Reflections

As I sit, keeping a silent vigil over my dear friend
summoning angels to prepare his way
to lay him down and lift him up
into light eternal

Yet his uncompromising spirit
yearns to play it all again
Unwilling to fade away
Unwilling to let it go

Dreaming of one more ride
through fields of sparkling flowers
this child of perpetual creativity
drinking every last drop from life’s chalice

Misunderstood artist
Survivor of unspeakable pain
Countered with comedic expression
Leaving us all in rippling laughter

A life of abundant wealth
measured not in gold or gems
but in unbound spirit, unimaginable skill
Seizing life’s essence in splendorous form

Teller of stories, seeker of beauty
stylish, romantic, untamed, and wild
Perceptive and receptive beyond measure
Unconforming, poetic minstrel

Charismatic, Pied piper,
fascinating children of all ages
in curious and undisciplined playfulness
and exalted jubilance

Eccentric lover of finer things
Transforming refuse into beauty
Seer of infinite possibility
Improvising inventor manifesting inspired ideas

Unconstrained imagination, shaped by culture and DNA
Pushing bounds in playful and glorious style
A gift to this world, a gift to me, to my family
leaving exquisite, sacred, and sublime memories

Peace to you, my friend,
traveling partner, kindred spirit
now soaring the astral plane
see you on the other side
