Times are rough, and Our Village Parent has definitely felt it – from racial profiling, family deaths, sudden housing instability, and loss of income due to Covid-19. But that hasn’t and could never stop her from serving all that melanated magic, leadership, and positivity. To make sure she can keep shining as brightly as possible, we’re starting this fundraiser for her housing stability and support as she updates her community advocacy to a more sustainable model.
Seattle is swiftly and ever-gentrifying, which has made it nearly impossible for so many of our leaders to do what they do best—lift us up. The Covid-19 pandemic has made it that much more difficult for us to connect in person, and our safe space cultivators like Briq have taken a significant financial hit.
Despite the oppressive systems that our Black communities are rising up against, the devastating impacts of Covid-19 on our gig economy, the disproportionate harms that women and queer folks are bearing, Briq (born, raised, and still out building community digitally and physically in these streets) is still loving up on us.
For over 5 years, she has produced the Sunday Night Shuga Shaq with Sin de la Rosa. With this one community event alone, she has paid and supported over 600 Black, Indigenous, and People of Color artists from all over the world. With more accomplishments than we could ever count, she has churned out Mystic Melanin Meet-Up (an all POC spiritual gathering and brunch), Quink Social Club (an exclusive all POC kink education and play party), Body Love and Sexual Healing through Movement workshops, Professional Cuddling Sessions, Private Burlesque Lessons, Life-Coaching, and let’s not forget about those Radiant Smiles and Healing, Wholesome Hugs! She also supports the People of Color Sex Workers Outreach Project and Greenlight Project – both harm-reduction and community advocacy organizations that are POC and SW-led.
Your offering will help cover Briq’s rental deposit, moving costs, transitional rent between places, car repair, now past due bills as a result of Covid-19 pandemic, and the support she needs to generate more of that Black Beauty and Joy which allows her to shower us with all that affirming, melanated magic.
Through her brilliance and leadership, she serves it to us every single day. And it costs money to consistently churn out the glory. This is how we can support Briq and her amazing work. Bent but never broken, she is still here, showing up no matter how much is stacked against her.
She shares everything she gets. She IS a Goddess. She has a plan, is actively working with community leaders, folks that are moving swiftly to make sure she can keep doing it all. And we can support her in taking care of her family and our communities. We can shine on her like she shines on us. Let’s celebrate our glorious Leo Queen.
And thank you, thank you, thank you for loving up on our joyful Briq!!
