Celebrate Daihachi: Support Young Artists

My brother, Daihachi Yagi, ended his decades-long battle with depression on Sunday, September 29th.

Daihachi had a crazy laugh, an elephant's memory, and spectacular dancing shoes. Anyone who met him would describe him as funny, courteous, and thoughtful. Those closest to him knew that despite his outward kindness and warmth, he struggled to shower himself with the same affection he was quick to dish out to his loved ones.

What he excelled at was listening with care and intent to the cares and woes of those lucky enough to be around him. He had the purest heart that beat to the rhythm of others.

Ever since he was a kid and I could still call him my "baby brother", he loved to make home videos. Despite my encouragements to study film at St. Andrews University, he didn't follow his passions and instead chose what he thought would look good on a resume.

My hope is that this memorial fund will serve a reminder to all the young boys (and girls) who feel like they have to live up to societal expectations instead of learning to listen to their own heart's desires. To honor Daihachi's memory, my parents and I are setting up a GoFundMe to help students with their education in the arts, especially in film. With your donation, we hope to give kids the courage to pursue those wild passions.
