Celebrating the Life of Delonte Smith (April 4, 1985 - October 8, 2024)
On Tuesday, October 8th, 2024, Delonte A. Smith was tragically taken from us in a senseless act of gun violence. Delonte was a devoted father, son, brother, cousin, uncle, and friend whose infectious humor touched everyone who knew him. Born and raised in Washington D.C., he was an avid sports lover, a passionate Dallas Cowboys fan in a family of Washington Commanders, and a fierce competitor in everything he did. From football to baseball, and even chess, he was a champion dominating in whatever he put his mind to in his youth. Delonte’s love for games reflected his lively personality.
Delonte leaves behind a legacy of love and family who is caught by surprise to cope with this immense loss as it is in the same community he grew up in. His one and only daughter, Amya Hudson, now faces her senior year of college without her father’s love and guidance. His mother, Vickie Smith, his older brother Monteriel Smith, and his little sister Sheraé Smith are also enduring unimaginable grief as they try to navigate life without him. Delonte gave his life to Christ in his late 20s, and while we take solace in knowing he is at peace, the pain of his absence is overwhelming.
As our family mourns, we are asking for your support. Your donations will help ease the burden during this incredibly difficult time and assist the family as they come to terms with this unexpected and heartbreaking tragedy.
Any support, through donations or sharing this page, would be a tremendous help during this time. Together, we can honor his memory and bring comfort to those who loved him as we seek to end the gun violence that senselessly took Delonte from us too soon.
With heartfelt thanks,
