Help Honor the Life of Navy Veteran James F. Johnston

Hello, my name is Victoria Paris, and I’m reaching out with a heavy heart.

On April 7th, 2025, our beloved father, James Johnston, passed away. He was a proud Navy veteran who served this country with courage and honor during the Vietnam War. He was a fighter in every sense of the word — a three-time cancer survivor, a man who lived with chronic congestive heart failure, COPD, PTSD, blindness in his left eye, and other illnesses, yet he never gave up. Even in his final days, he held on with incredible strength and grace in front of his family.

My father was honorably discharged after his service in the United States Navy, but sadly, he never received the full benefits he deserved. We had been in the process of appealing his VA case, fighting tirelessly for recognition and support for years. Unfortunately, he passed before any service-connected compensation could be awarded.

Now, I’m left trying to give my father the celebration of life he so deeply earned, but I’m struggling. The VA has offered very little help, and I’m facing a mountain of expenses on my own. I’m asking for help to cover what the VA won’t — funeral costs, memorial arrangements, and to honor him in a way that reflects the life he gave to us and this country.

Dad was more than a veteran. He was a devoted father and grandfather, a fighter who never gave up, and a man who sacrificed so much. He gave all he had for us and for his country. Now I want to give him the dignity and remembrance he deserves.
