Celebrate Jasmine Nyende On Her Way to Grad School

Introduction

A group of friends created this fundraiser for our beloved friend Jasmine Nyende, a brilliant artist and community organizer. Jasmine has been accepted into the Master of Fine Arts in Studio Practice program at UC Berkeley this fall, and we're coming together to celebrate her incredible achievements and help her get there!

About Jasmine

Jasmine Nyende is an artist and musician from South Central, Los Angeles. She is the lead vocalist for Black queer punk band FUPU (FUCK U PAY US!) and a textile artist focused on using recycled and repurposed materials, an educator and a prison abolition activist. She has been an active member of the Los Angeles creative community for the past 8 years as an organizer and performer. Her practice emerges from ancestral ways of knowing, told through natural patterns and handspun sources of freedom. Nyende’s work has been featured at Smart Objects LA, Sade Gallery, Company Gallery, The Hammer Museum, The Main Museum, MOCA, MOMA PS1, Human Resources, ICA London and In Lieu Gallery.

Why We’re Raising Funds

We've set a goal of $10,000 for this celebration fund, which will help Jasmine secure her moving costs and other needs as she embarks on this exciting new chapter in her life. We're asking anyone who has been moved and inspired by Jasmine's prolific artistic output and cosmic spirit to return her generosity by donating to this fundraiser and sharing it within your networks and communities.

Jasmine's Impact:

Over the last decade, Jasmine has created spaces for healing and uplifting Black and brown queer punks through her poetry, music, performance, and visual art. We are so excited to see Jasmine creating space for study and taking her artistic practice to the next level and know that so many people who are inspired by Jasmine want to support her along with us.
