On June 15, 2023, Danny Agnew - a brother, son, uncle, friend, artist, entrepreneur, and activist - was tragically killed in a car accident. His death has left a hole in the heart of his family and the Miami community where he lived and worked. He gave so much to thousands of people who were touched by his love, spirit, and commitment to service.
Danny Agnew was a co-founder of the Roots Collective. The Roots Collective umbrella is home to the Roots Clothing (a pro-black afro-centric apparel company), Roots Printing (a full service black owned printing company), the Roots Black Marketplace (a black and brown specific marketplace geared towards building wealth in South Florida) and the Roots Black House (community and an event space in the heart of Liberty City, Miami). These companies help fund community initiatives which include year round youth programming, a Black and Brown specific marketplace and the newly created “Village FREEdge”, a full service community pantry that feeds and supplies resources for over 200 community members daily.
Danny had so many dreams for his life and his people. Biggest of them all, was his vision to buy and own a building to house the work of the Village: the Roots Collective, Black Men Build and the Village Free-dge. We want to fulfill this dream. Not just for Danny but for a community who he helped serve.
