It is with a heavy heart that we write the words - we have lost our beloved Donna King to cancer. She fought so hard and is the epitome of strength, determination and faith. How blessed are we to have known and loved such an amazing soul. What a life to celebrate!
Whether she touched your life as mom, wife, daughter, sister, aunt, grandmother, Mama King, Dr. Reverend, activist, teacher, preacher, historian, scholar, mentor, tour guide, spiritual guide, lover and leader of racial and social justice or any of the countless titles she embodied; she was an inspiration to us all.
Donna was a woman of unshakeable faith and love. She shared and spread both wherever she went and with whomever she met. She inspired students at PSU as a professor. She mentored student teachers. She gave guided tours in Bellefonte, lantern in hand, of the Underground Railroad landmarks. She was a social justice advocate, fighting to make State College, PA a better and more equal place for all. She was the Pastor of St. Paul AME , an incredible church on a hill with such an important history. A church that she felt God wanted her to inherit from the elders before her. She was a Breast Cancer Awareness advocate - sharing her stories and strength. She was a lover of learning. A lifetime scholar with degrees from multiple universities. She was an inspiration, incredibly strong, silly, generous, knowledgeable and always sharing her insight and light. With all that Donna was, one thing she will never be, is forgotten.
We are all forever blessed with a Donna sized mark on our hearts. One that will be with us always. We stand on the shoulders of the giants that came before us. Donna is, without a shadow of a doubt, one of those giants.
Rest in Peace and Power Rev. Dr. Mama King. She will continue to shine on in our treasured memories. Her legacy will be remembered for generations to come and she will forever live on in our hearts.
Any contributions, no matter how small or large, would go towards helping to fund Donna's funeral services and helping the family with any other expenses during this difficult time.
