We are heartbroken to announce the passing of our beloved Debra Gilliam, at the age of 73. Debra was a woman of immense strength, compassion, and dedication, whose life was a testament to love and service.
For over 30 years, Debra served as a nurse in long-term care facilities in Sacramento, California, eventually becoming a Medical Records Director. Her stern yet gentle approach earned her the respect and admiration of her colleagues and patients alike. Debra was a fierce advocate for the care of the elderly, always striving to improve their quality of life. She also guided her peers, advising them on how to advance in their medical careers, embodying the true spirit of mentorship.
Debra's life was enriched by the love she shared with her husband, William Gilliam. Together, they raised two sons, Simon and Matthew, who both went on to become college graduates, a testament to the values and determination she instilled in them. She was a pillar of support, known for her kindness, generosity, and unwavering love for her family and friends. Her many siblings and extended family remember her as a constant source of encouragement and joy.
An avid reader and a lover of diverse cuisines and films, Debra found joy in the simple pleasures of life. Her passion for learning and experiencing new things was evident in everything she did.
When William was diagnosed with kidney cancer, Debra’s unwavering dedication shone through as she became his primary caregiver, prioritizing his well-being until his passing. Shortly after, she faced her own battle with cancer. Through her strong will, deep faith, and the devoted caregiving from her sons, Debra defied medical expectations and fought bravely, inspiring everyone around her.
As we come together to honor Debra’s memory, we seek your support to give her the dignified and loving farewell she deserves. Your generous contributions will help us celebrate her life and legacy in a manner befitting her incredible spirit and the profound impact she had on all of us.
