Celebration of Gilles

On Thursday August 5, 2021 @1:30 in the afternoon in Grandview Park on busy Commercial Drive a man went for a walk in his Neighbourhood and was killed in a
random act of senseless violence.

That man was Gilles Hebert, beloved partner of David for 24 years. Gilles was an active volunteer at Britannia Community Centre, an advocate for arts in the community as well as a talented sculptor. A lover of dogs, he had many canine friends in the Neighbourhood & often had a biscuit to offer them when he was out for walks.

This loss has left David absolutely heartbroken and torn apart. He not only has to reconcile losing Gilles in such a violent & senseless way, but also his sense of safety in his community & home.

My name is Trish, I am a longtime friend of David & Gilles. My goal with this GoFundMe is to provide some support for David and lighten the financial burden as he navigates living life on his own. We would like to host a Celebration of Life where Gilles friends & neighbours can honour him & truly celebrate this kind & gentle person. I also am hoping this campaign can create a bit of a buffer for David to be able to get a canine companion, as he and Gilles loved their Apollo so much - and I believe Gilles would have wanted that.
