Celebration of life costs for Melinda Varro

Our sister Melinda was a beautiful, caring soul who lit up rooms when she entered them. Unfortunately her life was prematurely cut short when she recently lost her battle with mental health and alcoholism at 35 years of age. Melinda suffered from alcoholism since she was a teenager. She only recently faced her addiction head on in 2022, recognizing it for what it was and seeking sobriety. She was sober for several months and recently relapsed. This is particularly devastating because when she had finally accepted she needed external help, she lost her chance. In addition to alcoholism, she was also suffering with depression and anxiety, and was seeking help for further mental health related diagnoses. While we await the coroner’s report we are all numb and in shock while struggling to wrap our heads around what happened but it appears that her attempts at sobriety became too much after a particularly hard week and her body could not handle the level of alcohol she consumed. Although Melinda had no children, she loved to be around children and her nieces and nephews have many fond memories of "Aunty Mindy" to look back on. She was artistic and loved to sing, even recording a few original songs. She did some acting and modelling, competed in Victoria Idol and in the show Instant Beauty Pageant, appeared in two Indie films, and starred in a few TV commercials.
As most people know, death comes with many expenses. Although she may be eligible for the CPP death benefit to help cover cremation expenses, we are looking to support our mother with planning the celebration of life and ensuring our family can be there. Melinda left behind no will or substantial assets and settling her affairs may be lengthy and time consuming. Time off work will be required by family members while we sort through her belongings and finances. We appreciate all the loving condolences received thus far and will provide an online obituary when it has been prepared. Comments and memories received here will be shared in a slideshow at her celebration of life. The many condolences received so far demonstrate how beloved Melinda was in her community. Despite battling alcoholism, she remained a positive person who always thought of others. If there are any funds raised in excess of the funeral and related expenses they will be donated to an alcohol and addictions recovery charity.
