Celebration of life for Dorothy Alice Chandler
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Shannon Buckels, a retired law enforcement officer in Orange County. I, along with numerous female LEOs, are fundraising for a memorial service for Dorothy Alice Chandler, the first female law enforcement officer in Orange County. Alice patrolled the hills in Orange on horseback in 1949. She died on June 10, 2023, at the age of 94.
Alice never married and had no children. She was the last survivor of her eight siblings. She had very few visitors at the convalescent home where she lived until 2016, when an article was published about her in Behind the Badge. After reading the article, a group of female law enforcement officers from all over Orange County went to visit her and, from then on, she never spent a birthday or holiday alone.
The funds from this fundraiser will be used to pay for a celebration of life to be held toward the end of August (location and date to be determined). Any leftover funds will be donated to the Orange County Sheriff's Department Mounted Enforcement Unit.
Thank you for supporting this pioneer in law enforcement, Dorothy Alice Chandler.
