CENARI Child Development Centre (CCDC)
Hello everyone,
We are a group of volunteers who helped with a project with kids for the village Sungai Pinang in Sumatra, Indonesia froom October till December 2022. It’s a small project with a lot of potential, but it needs help. The people running the project are hugely motivated and passionate about the children and the project itself. We are Noor, Thirza, Mirjam & Rob, Maaike, Laurien, Maren (NL), Manoe and Cara (BE) and are going to tell you a bit more about the project. (Follow the link to our Instagram account for more pictures and details on the project).
Project Description
The CCDC project focuses on educational support & skill development for the children and youth. It provides opportunities to further their education and realize their dreams. The project supports around 75 children at the moment (many more to join) through mentorship, library service, art and music skill, sport & IT training, education scholarship and much more. At the moment we do have one classroom in our village which accommodates the kids to learn English from volunteers around the world. It was built a few months ago with the help of many donors. As part of a classroom available, we run our art & culture program three times a week inside the house of one of our members, as do the sport program held in the village football field
Challenge
The existing low educational competence of school children, particularly those enrolled in government schools, is high. Why? Because the inability of government school students, who in most instances are from poor family backgrounds. The teaching and learning process of these schools remains to be a challenge as well as the parents majority are fishermen. These parents mostly have no proper education backgrounds and are not able to stimulate their kids enough. These being the underlying factor to embark on such community-based initiatives.
Solution
‘Education is the most powerful weapon you can use to change the world”.
- Nelson Mandela -
With this project CCDC provides a number of educational services to address the right of children to access quality education & skill development services. It provides tutorial services, centre-based talent, and skill development training. This includes for example library services, educational sponsorship to university, psychosocial support and much more that allows them to have a long term impact. The long term impact of the project is creating educational and livelihood opportunities for vulnerable kids. These kids are an instrument for positive and sustained social development at the community. In the long run this project shall ensure the development of high self-esteem and motivation for success among vulnerable community members.
So, would you join us helping these kids learn all year? Please donate or let us know if you want to help in a different way!
