THE AMOUNT THAT IS ENTERED AND APPEARS AS YOUR DONATION IS IN MEXICAN PESOS NOT US DOLLARS (THE EXCHANGE RATE IS ROUGHLY 1 USD = 20 MXN).
As you may have heard, our dear Julián Vélez Álvarez was involved in a car accident in late December in his hometown in Mexico. A driver hit his motorcycle and fled the scene, leaving Juli on the road. He was rushed to a hospital, where he underwent surgery to save his life. Unfortunately, in the process, the surgeons had to amputate his left leg. While we are all immensely relieved and deeply grateful that Juli survived, we are acutely aware of the scale of the challenge ahead. The road to recovery and rehabilitation will be long, rocky, and costly.
The aspiration is that with this support, Juli will be able to not only recover his movement and independence but also find his way back to activities such as dancing and body expression, martial arts, fencing, and climbing, which bring him so much joy and purpose.
All donations will go directly to Juli’s Mexico bank account. Initial expenses include, but are not limited to:
Immediate needs: Medical bills, in-home nurse, support from an acute rehabilitation center, psychological therapist/counseling, transportation costs, food, crutches.
Long-term needs: Ongoing physical therapy, in-home care, prosthetic leg, prosthetic leg replacement and maintenance.
Ideal: Home accessibility modifications, vehicle accessibility modifications, powered wheelchair/mobility device.
The initial goal for this fundraiser is MXN 2,000,000 (approximately USD 100,000).
USD 1 = MXN 20
