About Him:
Cha Vang Thao was born in the spring of 1944 and would become an individual of many talents- a modern renaissance man. A member of the Special Guerilla Unit (SGU) , a teacher, an intellect, a principal, a farmer, a truck enthusiast, and among many roles, a father to us all. Cha Vang Thao was larger than life to all who knew him. Prior to his illnesses, if he wasn’t tending to his beloved truck, he was found in his dear garden or the farm tending to his plants, an individual with a natural green thumb. If he wasn’t in the garden or the farm or in his truck, he was surely at his desk with his beloved English- Lao - Hmong dictionary with his journal; an individual with the strength of a thousand men and the wisdom of an entire community of scholars.
Outside of his larger than life personality and life, his heart and love for all was boundless, truly limitless. As the age-old saying goes, “give a man a fish, and he eats for a day. Teach the man how to fish, and he eats for a lifetime.” Cha Vang Thao did BOTH. Generous to all around him, he never hesitated to assist whenever someone in his community was in need, whether it be a village child, a student at his school, or a stranger he had just encountered. He was the embodiment of the best that the human spirit had to offer.
Despite his many tribulations, he resettled in the United States in 1994 with his family and would become a father to a total of 13 children and 56 grandchildren. Although our father and grandfather is no longer with us, his life and legacy will continue to shine through us all.
