Chad Berry Cancer Fund

Thursday, April 22nd, I got the call that Chad was having severe stomach pains and needed to go to the ER. Upon arriving at the ER we were hoping for a simple diagnosis and release. Unfortunately, after X-rays & blood work that was not the case.

Chad was transported by Care Flight's ground transportation team from Baylor Uptown ER to Baylor University Medical Center's ER.  They proceeded to take him for a CT and also performed an ultrasound, plus various other tests. It was determine he had pancreatitis and swollen lymph nodes.  The plan was to remove his gall bladder and biopsy the lymph nodes after he had been on antibiotics for a few days.

Saturday, April 24th, They removed his gall bladder and the swollen lymph node closest to it. They could not get to the other lymph nodes safely and opted not to biopsy those.

Monday, they confirmed what we were fearing. Cancer!

Tuesday, we anticipated the full diagnosis and treatment plan. That did not come until Thursday evening.

Our worst fears came to life. Chad was diagnosed with stage 3 gall bladder cancer that has metastasized. Spreading to his liver, the bile ducts into the upper intestine as well as his lymph nodes.

There is no cure only treatment. The doctors have given him 2 months to 2 years as a life expectancy. The treatment is chemo, to see if it will slow the growth and stop the spread of the cancer, buying him as much time as possible. The recommendation is chemo for half a day once a week for 5 weeks with a break on week 3. On week 6 they will test to see if the chemo has been effective. If it has and if he tolerates it he will continue for up to 4 additional months.

He is currently waiting to be released from the hospital as soon as they can set up his chemo treatment. They finally said this Friday, May 7th at the latest. Fingers crossed because he is going stir crazy in there and his loved ones want him home.

We are asking for donations to help with expenses for treatment & day to day needs.

We are also asking for prayers, good juju, rainbows & unicorns be sent our way.
