Chad Newton Kidney Transplant

Our son, Chad Alan Newton II, was born with a birth defect that damaged his kidneys back in 1992.
We are so thankful that God has sustained him for 27 years before needing a transplant.
On January 17, he and I will be undergoing a living donor transplant so that he can avoid dialysis and hopefully live for many years before another transplant will be needed.
Chad and his wife Katie have both been incredibly strong throughout this health challenge, but we know they need all of the support we can give them. There are 3 different ways that we believe our friends and family can best express their support.
1. Prayers for the surgery and recovery period for Chad and I and then continued prayers that Chad will not reject the kidney for many years.
2. Friends and family members who would be willing to be tested for being a living donor in the future.
If you would be willing to consider testing, there is a number available for more information.
The National Kidney Foundation has an excellent website that gives great information about what this involves. The U of M Transplant Center (1-800-333-9013) has Chad's specific information for living donation.
3. Funds to help with medical expenses. We are so thankful that Chad has a job with medical insurance, but these costs go well beyond what is covered. After the kidney transplant, his time off work is estimated to be between 4-6 weeks and the doctors will be working with different medications to try and prolong the transplant.
