Help others in daily life with Challenge 108

Thanks for clicking on our 30-day Challenge 108 team fundraiser!

Challenge 108 is a 30-day flexible fundraising challenge designed to raise awareness and raise funds. The proceeds will go to our wee charity, Yoga in Daily Life Scotland, which is run by volunteers who are working to help people triumph over the challenges of daily life. (Scroll to the end for more about our charity).

Why is it called 'Challenge 108'?
The number 108 is a special sacred number in yoga and some other traditions; and, among other meanings, it represents the whole UNIVERSE:

1 = the individual
0 = nothing, the void of space
8 = endless infinity (∞)

Maintaining health and well-being can be a challenge for everyone nowadays – young and old – in this busy world of ever-upgrading technology, information overload and multiple demands and distractions. We can easily get absorbed in screens and cut off from meaningful contact with others and the world around us - which can sometimes lead to devastating effects on our health.

Yoga in Daily Life is about taking proper care of our health – physical, mental and spiritual health, as well as social health.

This means caring not only about our own health and well-being as individuals but also the health and well-being of the world we live in – other people, animals, nature and the environment – because we are all connected.

And this starts with being more aware of our surroundings...

So, Challenge 108 is a fun way to help you spend quality time with loved ones, and together be more mindful and aware of how you think about things and how your actions affect the world around you.

It's a way of practising yoga in your daily lifebeyond the yoga mat!

What is the challenge in Challenge 108?
Your challenge is to find 108 examples of 1-10 tasks within 30 days and note them down:
1. Point to and name 108 body parts
2. Spot 108 animals
3. Touch or hug 108 trees
4. Name 108 edible plants
5. Pick up 108 pieces of litter
6. Think of 108 nice words to say
7. Notice 108 smiling faces
8. Carry out 108 acts of kindness
9. Make 108 good wishes
10. Discover 108 things in common with others
How do I do it?
1. Find a friend to do the challenge with – make a team of two (or more): a young child and an adult, two youngsters, two adults.
2. Decide together when you’re going to start the challenge and how many tasks you want to start with – give yourself up to 30 days to complete it.
3. Make a donation, if you can afford to, then leave a comment to let us know you’re taking part. Or you can donate via our Website. Thank you!
4. Download the free TASK SHEETS, or find your own notebook, to record your findings. Choose your tasks!
5. Share the challenge with others: at home, at school, at work, in person, via emails and on social media.
6. Start your tasks! Write in your answers (on paper or on-screen) and you can add photos or drawings too if you like, be creative!
7. Come and tell us on Facebook when you've completed the tasks and about your adventures and discoveries along the way during your searching, finding and counting! If you’re not on Facebook, you can tell us via email and we’ll post it for you here in the updates.
8. Feel free to be flexible with the ‘rules’; the aim is to spend time together, be present and aware, learn and experience and have fun!
When shall I do it?
Right now, at the beginning of the year, is a good time to 'be the change you want to see', as Mahatma Gandhi wisely said.

The fundraising campaign will run until the 108th day of the year, Wednesday 17 April 2024.

However, you can continue doing Challenge 108 as long as you like – finding more things, starting again later in the year, or adding some of your own new mindful tasks to the list.

Remember to SHARE it far and wide, so others can join in too.

May all beings find kindness, peace and joy in their daily lives.

YOUR DONATIONS WILL GO TO:
We are a wee registered charity based in Edinburgh, run entirely by volunteers and doing our best to serve others by improving the health and well-being of people, animals and the environment in the local community and beyond.

Funds raised will go towards helping us continue providing online classes for the public and also enable us to increase the number of in-person courses, workshops, retreats and special events that we can offer at hired venues in the year ahead.
