Speakeasy Soiree for Honor Flight
Donation protected
Approximately 550 veterans from World War II die each day. It is estimated that in the next 5-7 years the remaining service men and women from America's Greatest Generation will no longer be with us. And not one of these brave men and women should leave us without the Thank You given by Honor Flight.
It was a hot July day standing with the loose earth crumbling beneath the funeral carpet under our feet. The sound of the short blasts from the gun salutes blasting through the humid air. The wrinkled hands shaking yet firm in a smart salute. The snap of the flag in the small breeze. The crisp blue corners as it's folded and gently placed in a son's hands. Your Mission is Complete. Thank you for your Service. The words spoken by a quivering voice and the quick glimmer of tears. The pride and dignity filling the small space as quiet sobs were shared among the onlookers. The finality of the moment sinking in to those hearing the closing words. Your Mission is Complete. The end of a mission for a man of America's Greatest Generation. A hero not only to his family but to everything the Red, White, and Blue stands for. Those wrinkled hands which used to hold mine that 60 years earlier clutched his rifle and marched forward to fulfill his duty to God and Country. All this for just this moment. This moment where we look to honor the Men and Women who have marched that same path, clutched those same rifles. Looking ahead and leaving families behind. Some of whom they never saw again. To try and pay homage to their commitment and service in a small paragraph does injustice for the war they fought. The memories etched forever in their minds. The victories they celebrated and with that the losses they mourned. And a quiet life in their homes with no thought to the Honor to Come. The Honors given by The Greater St Louis Honor Flight.
Our goal is a lofty one. But one that can easily be accomplished with help from a supporter like you. We are trying to raise the funds to send an entire plane of veterans to recieive an Honor long over due.
