Chance is a Shriner Clown (OCHO) that loves to donate his time from being the Master of Ceremonies at the Shriner's Circus to visiting numerous Children's Hospitals singing songs, doing birthday parties or just popping in to see their faces light up as they fight their own fight. He is committed to raising funds and awareness for charity and loves to cheer on the Spirit Celebration SPECIAL NEEDS CHILDREN year after year. From There to Here and Moving Forward:
Early in 2019 Chance Noble, also known as OCHO the Clown, was told he had a tumor on his left side of his Thyroid suspicious of cancer. The tumor on his left side was removed and it was thought to be a success. However, after the pathology review, he was told he needed to schedule a 2nd surgery again immediately to remove the right side of his thyroid due to the reports coming back positive as Poorly Differentiated Thyroid Cancer.
After two surgeries in 2019, in June 2020, just before he was to start treatment, Chance felt another knot in his neck about the size of his pinky. Chance immediately reached out to his Doctor to schedule an appointment to do an Ultrasound. The growth had now grown to the size of his thumb. After the ultrasound, a STAT surgery was conducted July 21, 2020.
21 Lymph Nodes and fatty tissues were taken out of the left side of his neck. The tumor, now the size of an egg, also spouted tentacles which attached themselves to muscle through the fatty tissues in the neck and wrapped themselves around the carotid artery. 2.5" of the main carotid artery was removed and remaining ends reattached. A drain tube was sewn in to filter out post op fluids.
Unfortunately, during this surgery, Chance’s Thoracic Duct was breached and has been draining into his neck. The drainage had to get below 10 CC a day so the drain can be removed prior to the Digital Mapping of the affected neck region. Now that this is accomplished, the treatment phase will begin. His radiation treatment will be daily for 7 weeks accompanied with chemotherapy.
Chance’s cancer Metastasized into his neck as Stage 4 Anaplastic carcinoma. The clock is ticking, and now it is critical that the team must get out ahead of this cancer and stay there. Only 1.6% of Thyroid Cancer patients ever get this form of cancer. Chance will have to maintain consistent alertness and ongoing lab work and body scans for years to come. Fortunately, some of the genetic pathology reports have come back to show Chance is a candidate for at least 1 of the trial immunotherapy medications.
Over the 4 procedures and throughout the continuation of treatment and recovery, due to Chance being self-employed, he will continue to be limited in his ability to work. In addition, now there is a genuine concern of exposure to COVID 19 further delaying any of his treatments. Chance and Lisa have covered numerous out of pocket expenses in 2019 and 2020, ran up their personal credit, applied for mortgage assistance from the bank and have privately raised funds from the generosity of their immediate family, their Shrine family, Hella Clowns and close friends. But now, as the long term treatment begins, they are in need of more comprehensive assistance.
Let's help Chance and Lisa with their ongoing medical and living expenses during this upcoming treatment and recovery phase so OCHO can focus on getting back to "Spreading Miles Of Smiles"
A word from Chance’s Cancer Advocate, Tina.
As a cancer navigator I see the toll Cancer can take on anyone trying to fight this awful predator. Spiritually, knowing you have cancer creeps into your mindset asking… "why me?"
Financially, there are so many hidden costs associated with fighting the dreaded "C" word.
Deductibles, copays, prescriptions, new immunotherapies treatments, loss of wages, out of pocket expenses and the future cost ongoing monitoring can add up over the course of this fight upwards of $100,000.
Easing any of these burdens for the cancer survivor and their family can help them get back the power that cancer took away.
