Since 2016, the Anglophone Crisis has been affecting The Northwest and Southwest Regions of Cameroon. According to the UNHCR, Cameroon hosts about two million persons of concern to UNHCR, including one million internally displaced persons*, 460,000 refugees and asylum-seekers, and 466,000 Internally Displaced Persons (IDP). These people are currently internally displaced in their own country and cannot go back to their homes and pursue their education because of insecurity. 51% of internally displaced persons are children. OpenDreams, ongoing mission is to build the future leaders of Cameroon, Africa, and beyond! They work with low-income students and IDPs in Cameroon by providing educational opportunities and mentorship to help them achieve their aspirations. The students are immersed in a gap-year program through a rigorous two-month Summer Academy, year-round mentorship, and educational training in math, writing, leadership, community service, and more!
