Change the lives of 120 East African farmers
Donation protected
Hey, we're Safi!
Safi is a non-profit providing East African farmers with a cost-effective and accessible pasteurization handle that kills milk-borne diseases such as brucellosis, mastitis, salmonella, and even MERS, a coronavirus 10x deadlier than COVID-19.
The device is compact, does not require power and allows farmers to easily pasteurize their daily yield in less than 3 minutes.
The mission of Safi is two-fold:
1. provide safe drinking milk, especially to children and pregnant women who rely on milk for essential nutrients
2. help farmers rise out of poverty through the 58% increased revenues from selling pasteurized milk.
We have just come back from a field test in Rwanda this March where we met with farmers, vendors, partners, ministry officials, and regulators!
We got incredible reception there, formed partnerships, and are so excited to be returning in September to pilot-test our improved prototype. We will also be visiting Oman and Kenya to pilot with over 120 farmers and milk vendors.
To conduct our pilot, we need to manufacture and assemble 122 handles. With the cost of every handle at $75, the total required is $10,000 for the parts, manufacturing, and assembly!
The impact of your donation on farmers is best said by Laurent, the country manager of the Ripple Effect in Rwanda:
"Once they increase their income levels [from using the Safi handle], some farmers will be able to pay for their children, pay better schools, and pay school fees, pay school materials, and everything they need to make sure their children go to schools. "
We are a non-profit so anything is everything to us! And please, help us share the word so that the next time a farmer picks up a glass of milk, they aren't afraid that it is dangerous, but are confident that is Safi!
