Change the World, Educate a Girl!

Please help raise $5,000 to educate young girls in Ghana!

About Us
The Campaign for Female Education (CAMFED) fights poverty and inequality by supporting girls to go to school and succeed, and empowering young women to step up as leaders of change. For 25 years, CAMFED has invested in girls and women in the poorest rural communities in sub-Saharan Africa, where girls face acute disadvantage, and where their education has transformative potential.

CAMFED supports girls and young women through school, and then on to new lives as entrepreneurs and community leaders. To complete the “virtuous cycle” and create sustainable change, graduating students become CAMFED Alumnae (CAMA), many of whom return to their local schools to train and mentor new generations of students.

United by our background of rural poverty, CAMFED Alumnae empathize with the significant challenges faced by vulnerable children in rural communities. Additionally, having been supported through school ourselves, we have a strong motivation and commitment to reinvest in our communities. Each CAMFED alumna, on average, supports two more girls to go to school, and rallies community support around the most vulnerable.

When you educate a girl, everything changes. She’ll have a smaller, healthier family and support her children’s education.

More About Our Project
Funding of $5,000 would enable CAMFED Alumnae (CAMA) in the Bawku West district of Ghana to support 300 of the most vulnerable girls in our communities to stay in school and succeed. Through this approach, once-marginalized young women in rural Ghana are stepping up as philanthropists, role models and leaders of change.

Under this project, CAMA will support children to access education by meeting the school-going costs that are preventing them from coming to and staying in school. Although school is now free to attend in Ghana for all children, other direct costs of education remain. At the secondary school level, parents must meet costs such as the following:

- Exam fees
- Uniforms and shoes
- Stationery
- Sanitary wear
- Transport costs

These costs are prohibitive for many children, and the project will specifically seek to support those who are out of school and those who live in the most remote, hard-to-reach areas.

Children are identified for support using a robust identification and selection process based on CAMFED's long-standing program in Ghana. And your support to be able to meet direct school-going costs is complemented by the additional activities of CAMFED Alumnae in the district, which include academic tutoring, counseling, mentoring, and advocating to the wider community around removing the barriers that girls face in securing an education.

How You Can Help
Any donation, large or small, will benefit our continued efforts to help young girls continue their education. We ask you to donate if you can and share our campaign far and wide!

Your gift will transform the futures of girls like Mary, who was supported by CAMFED Alumnae in Bawku West, and shared: “You have challenged me to work hard regardless of my current situation. I promise to work hard in order to give back to my community.”
