My name is Chantal Freeman. I am a young opera singer studying with the wonderful Tony Pugliese in Philadelphia.
This summer, with your help, I have the opportunity to spend six weeks (July 4-August 15) in Graz, Austria studying at the Opera Studio at the spectacular American Institute for Music Studies. The program is ripe with opportunites for performance as well as voice lessons, vocal coachings, diction lessons, German language classes, and master classes every week. The end of the program culminates with the opportunity to participate in the Meistersinger Competition. The funds requested would secure my place in the program, my airfare, and cover my expenses ( I have been granted a leave of absence without pay from my full-time job). My deadline to collect the funds is June 1, 2016.
This is such an important opportunity to me. I moved to Philadelphia upon graduating from Fordham University where I studied music and theology. I moved to Philly with the specific intention of studying with Tony, my current teacher, and it continues to be the best decision of my life. While I work full time, much of my time and the few extra dollars that I have goes into my studies and training. I do not have a conservatory background, but music has been a constant driving force since I was a young child. I grew up singing at the piano with my father, playing the flute in band, singing in choirs, singing in churches both where my father is Pastor and independently. All of my experiences have come to create a musician with a deep, meaningful, and dedicated passion to my art.
Participation in this program would be a true game-changer for me; it will provide me a great breadth of experience and exposure. My acceptance to the program is a true testament to the work and time I have spent working on my technique and artistry.
I am truly excited for this time in my life and will continue to strive for greatness!
