Charlee’s Neuroblastoma journey

Hi, my name is Kayley Moffitt. We are fundraising for Sam & Carlo’s baby girl, Charlee. Charlee was only 12 months old when she was diagnosed with Neuroblastoma.

In late January, we noticed a lump in Charlee's neck, we were told it was likely a swollen lymph node due to an infection and it should go away within a few weeks. A she had some antibiotics and we continued to monitor her. About a month later it still hadn't gone away so a referral was sent off to a pediatric ears nose and throat specialist. She finally had that appointment in mid-May. When the specialist assessed it, he informed us that it is atypical for a lump like this to be in this area of a child's neck and that he'd like to surgically remove it and send a biopsy away.

Charlee had her surgery on June 8th, where he removed the entire lump from her neck and sent it off for testing.

On June 13th we received a phone call from the surgeon advising us that the pathology from the biopsy had come back and he needed to see us urgently. We went to the Stollery the next morning and were told that Charlee has Cancer. Her diagnosis is Neuroblastoma.

She went back to Stollery the following week, she had an MIBG scan and other testing to determine if the cancer has spread.

On June 27th, we got the results of her MIBG scan, and unfortunately she still has neuroblastoma in her neck. At this point it appears to be localized just to her neck, however we are awaiting a bone marrow biopsy result, an MRI and a kidney ultrasound.
