In 2016 I was diagnosed with Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy (HCM).
The symptoms of this disease became more severe this year.
March 1st was my first experience; losing and gaining consciousness and having abnormal heart beats. I was admitted to the ER and was put on medication and said to moderate my activity level.
On July 7th, I suffered from Cardiac Arrest. This was a near death experience as I lost consciousness, and my heart stopped beating. I was very lucky for the fast action of the EMT’s and my family who was around to be able to call 911 and assist in saving my life.
The doctors determined I needed an Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator (ICD) that would shock my heart back into regular beating. They performed this surgery on the 9th of July, and I have been at home recovering since.
August 10th, I had my 3rd episode where my heart went into irregular beating and the ICD did it’s job of sending two electric shocks to my heart that brought my beating back to normal. I still had to be admitted to the ER and was there over the weekend so they could monitor my heart and device while I got used to additional medication.
My original time away from work was estimated to be back by October. After having my 3rd episode, the doctors will be extending my leave and my return is based on my overall health (TBD).
I am focused on my path to recovery, and accept the challenges that I will face along the way. Unfortunately the cost of my medical expenses in combination with my monthly expenses is one that will be challenging to overcome alone. Those who know me understand I like to help everyone as much as possible, and don’t always ask for help myself.
Given these circumstances, I am asking for help to cover my medical costs and assist with my ability to return to the workforce in a timely manner. I am working on looking into additional medical opinions about my disease and what my best options are. Your love and support is greatly appreciated and I will keep you updated!
