Charles J. Hardy

Hello. Charlie Hardy was diagnosed in mid-November 2023 at age 67 with Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease (CJD), a rapidly progressive and always fatal brain disorder that causes unique changes in brain tissue and affects muscle coordination, thinking, and memory. In the last few weeks, our lives have completely changed, and this horrible disease was nothing we had ever heard of before. Due to Charlie's cancer diagnosis in 2007, he was unable to get long term care insurance or any health insurance other than his Cigna Medicare Advantage plan. Cigna denied coverage for skilled nursing care, which Charlie needed, and with the help of the case managers at NHC, we appealed and were granted care for 18 days, which I am grateful for. Cigna denied two additional appeals, so the remainder of his care was not covered by insurance. I created this GoFundMe for friends, family and former colleagues to donate for medical care and expenses for Charlie. Any donation, large or small, is greatly appreciated, and will be used to pay for Charlie's care.

Charlie passed on Saturday morning, January 6, 2024. He was free of pain, and his death was peaceful. It was so sad to see what this disease did to him. Kevin and I will miss him very much, and I like to think that now he is whole again.
