Charles Metz Memorial Climbing Scholarship

For those who knew Charles "Chuck" Metz, know that his love of kayaking down the creek, chopping wood, shooting, climbing with friends, throwing knives, fishing, and teaching others his passions was his nature. Chuck was a brother, father, son, uncle, and friend to many. Chuck passed away on May 19th, 2019, but the memories in the hearts of his friends and family lives on.
Chuck often rock climbed at the Centre of Elgin with friends, and often made new friends during his ascents and belays. He always invited others along to enjoy life as much as he did. To help remember his generous nature, the Charles Metz Memorial Climbing Scholarship was set up at the Centre of Elgin. This scholarship will provide access to climbing classes and wall fees to kids and teens that do not have the means to pay for classes but wish to learn how to climb. The scholarship will be advertised by the Centre of Elgin to kids and teens in need and can be offered as a one-time (2019) program or an ongoing scholarship if friends and family wish to continue donating in his memory.
A youth climbing pass at the Centre of Elgin costs $40 per student and classes can be about $100. Donations can be made directly to Max Metz Jr. in cash or check to be deposited directly in the scholarship account, or digitally on this GoFundMe page. Every donation gets a kid or teen one step closer to reaching the top of the wall.
