On Sunday, July 21, 2019, Charles “Chuck” Reeves fell from his boat in the driveway while unpacking from a two-week family camping trip. Chuck broke his neck and suffered a spinal cord injury. Chuck is currently in intensive care at Upstate University Hospital where he underwent a dangerous emergency surgery to stabilize his neck. His cervical vertebrae C3-C7 were broken all of the way through leaving his spinal cord pinched and swollen. While he can still feel when being touched, Chuck cannot move below his chest with the exception of being able to slightly raise his left leg and wiggle his left toes. He has movement in his arms but cannot flex and extend his fingers very well.
Everyone who knows Chuck, knows how very much he loves his family and friends. His wife, Thelma, has not left his side since the accident and his children and grandchildren (who are his pride and joy) are visiting him every day. Chuck is an amazing man who is willing to help anyone who needs it. Besides spending time with his family, especially around the campfire, Chuck loves to hunt, fish and cheer for his grandchildren at soccer games. Chuck and Thelma are their grandchildren’s (Sidney, Lauren and Tyler) biggest fans for all that they do in their lives and try to attend almost every soccer game that they play in. Chuck and Thelma are well known at soccer games cheering them on for Groton, Southern Cayuga, Waza and SDA. They are immensely loving and supportive grandparents. Sidney, Lauren and Tyler will never have more avid fans in their lives and they completely adore their grandparents.
Chuck is a fighter and will pull through this but has a very long road ahead of him. This injury is life-changing. Please consider helping the family with expenses that are piling up during his hospital stay with intense physical therapy and for his long-term care once he is able to come home. Every little bit will help.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts!!
