Charles Wardlow Medical Fund
On Sunday March 7th, 2021 my brother
Charles “Chuck” Wardlow was admitted to Mt Siani Hospital Miami Beach with a complaint
of chest and lung discomfort.
It was determined that he had pneumonia and also discovered that he needed bypass surgery. The triple bypass surgery was completed on Wednesday March 9th at 2pm. He was in pain and tired over the next couple days as expected but recovering normally.
While recovering in ICU on Sunday March 13th at approximately 4:00 am, while sitting
up in a chair, Chuck’s blood pressure dropped and ejection fraction dropped from 35 to 10 and his heart stopped beating. The ICU team was able to regain a pulse through CPR and had to shock his heart back into rhythm. He was
placed on a ventilator and stabilized. His left
ventricle was not functioning properly, he had fluid in his lungs and his internal organs began to fail during this traumatic incident.
Later, that afternoon, on Sunday the 13th at
approximately 2pm, they took Chuck back
into surgery to open his chest again and
perform additional procedures to his heart to and started him on dialysis. A ballon pump was also installed to assist the heart. He was placed on multiple blood pressure drugs and being monitored even more closely since the incident. He has been in critical but stable condition since Sundays events. There is no visitation due to COVID. Every day and night we receive updates on his recovery.
On Thursday March 18th, the medical team
decided that his heart strength was
progressing well and removed the balloon
pump but he remains on the ventilator as he
has pneumonia at this time. He remains on dialysis as well. Chuck is slowly progressing in the right direction but still not out of the woods. He will have a long recovery and the mounting medical and personal expenses along with his 2 sons still in school / college. We are asking for your support for Chuck at this very difficult time.
