Charlie Blomquist Cancer Treatment

In May 2021 Charlie Blomquist was taken to the hospital for difficulty breathing. After labs and a work up they found he was 6 pints low on blood and that is what was causing him to have trouble breathing because there was not enough oxygen in his blood. The CT scan showed that he had enlargement in his pelvis. So they immediately sent him to the oncologist/ hematologist. He had 2 blood transfusions within a week. They did 2 biopsies and they came back inconclusive. But a PET scan had been done and showed there was cancer in his pelvis, stomach and lungs. But his body was not cooperating as to what kind of cancer. So they had to do surgery in June 2021 to remove 2 large lymph nodes and it came back as Hodgkins Lymphoma. In July of 2021 he started chemotherapy every 2 weeks till Dec 2021. He did 6 rounds of chemo. The Drs were very optimistic that he would be in remission. With a week after chemo all his symptoms started to return as they were before he was first diagnosed. So on Jan 12, 2022 a final PET scan was done to see if he was in remission. On Jan 17, 2022 the Dr gave that horrible news no one wants to hear that their cancer was not gone. He did in fact tell him that any further treatment could not be done in Yuma they would have to travel out of town for any further treatment. During this time YRMC oncologist Dr. Chandra had been consulting with Mayo Clinic. So Mayo Clinic is going to continue the ongoing care. Mayo Clinic has told him that he will undergo heavy chemo and it has to be done impatient . So his wife Amber will have to be staying in hotels while he undergo treatment. He will have a bone marrow transplant and will have to be inpatient for a month or more once this happens. He has been unable to work since May 14, 2021 and is unsure as to when he will be able to go back.
