On October 14th 2020, Charlie Jo Chavez was driving her 8 month old son, Samuel, to enjoy a sunny afternoon at the pumpkin patch. While stopped waiting to make a left turn, she was rear ended and launched into oncoming traffic. She was hit head on by a gasoline tanker and her vehicle was crushed.
By the grace of God, baby Sammy escaped the accident completely unscathed. However, Charlie Jo is in critical condition at Christus Mother Francis Hospital in Tyler, Tx. She is currently in ICU with catastrophic injuries. Both of her legs are broken, as well as her arm, her pelvis, and multiple ribs. Complications due to damage to her carotid artery has caused her to suffer a stroke. She has undergone multiple surgeries within the first few days of her accident and has many more to come.
Charlie Jo is self employed as a hair stylist and due to the severity and nature of her injuries it is unknown if she will be able to return to work. Funds will be used to assist with covering medical expenses.
Charlie Jo is a loving mother. Her family, her husband, and her son mean everything to her. This accident has already stolen so much from her. Her ability to continue breastfeeding her son. Her ability to pick him up and hold him in her arms. Her ability to just enjoy a day in the fresh air at the pumpkin patch. She is fiercely strong and she is a fighter- evident when looking at photos of her mangled car. It is a miracle she is breathing. It is the hope and wish of those who love her that her already extremely difficult road to recovery isn't made more difficult by any financial burden caused by this horrific event that was of no fault of her own.
