Charlie Simonson's medical expenses

Donation protected

My name is Samantha Chapa, and I'm setting up a gofundme for my brother and sister-in-law, Daniel and Brenda Simonson. They are two very hard-working people who don't like to ask for help. So that's why God gave you big sisters; I'm going to ask for them.

They are both managers at the 1488 Chick-Fil-A and have positively impacted the local community. Although they were finishing their college education, they have put that aside for now. Currently, Benda is recovering from her C-section, and they are staying in a hotel close to the MH Children's hospital downtown. They can see Charlie during visitor hours from 9 am - 9 pm. Unfortunately, Daniel will have to go back to work soon. They have moved back into my parent's house to save money for the medical bills and get assistance from grandparents when they get home. Charlie is expected to be in the hospital for at least another month, but it depends on his progress after surgeries.

Brenda wanted to share this message with everyone to explain their situation:

We want to start by thanking every single one of you for taking the time to read our sweet little boy’s journey. We have received so many caring messages, and the support has been immense.

Charlie was diagnosed with Aqueductal Stenosis at 24 weeks. This is where the passage that helps our cerebral spinal fluid circulate through our brain is obstructed or fails to develop. This causes fluid to be retained in the ventricles of our brain, resulting in increased pressure, a condition called hydrocephaly. The pressure can cause damage to surrounding areas resulting in a wide array of issues. The spectrum is vast. He could have minimal difficulties like hitting his milestones later than others or severe developmental delays. We were given the option to travel to another state to terminate the pregnancy, but Daniel and I knew that we wanted Charlie to have a chance at life, and as his parents, we wanted to give him that opportunity. His life might look different from others, but when he grows up, he will know that his life matters.

As the pregnancy progressed, Charlie’s head increased in size, and by 31 weeks, his head was measuring 10 weeks ahead. The doctors decided that for his safety and mine, it was time to deliver.
Being a preemie has made his situation even more delicate. He is currently receiving help to breathe and eat, but he’s defying all odds. We don’t know what the future looks like for our Charlie. We do know that he will soon need brain surgery to relieve the pressure and keep fluid from pooling again. We know he will need extensive care and therapy after the surgeries.

We also know that he is already so very loved and that many want to help in any way they can. However, what we need most is the continuing prayer and emotional support we have received during these trying times. Your kind words have lifted our spirits many times this week. That being said, if you find it in your heart to give any amount, Daniel and I would be forever grateful.
