Charlie's Retirement Home

Hello,

My name is Kathryn Kuczkowski-Santos. I started Charlie's Retirement Home in 2015 to give medically challenging seniors a final place to spend their remaining time. We are a Hospice/Retirement home that is entirely non-profit and cover all the costs out of pocket. Charlie was my first rescue cat, he opened my eyes to the world of senior medicine, and I never looked back. Charlie was the reason I started this journey and the reason I continue every day.

A little background, I am a Veterinary Emergency Nurse with 11yrs of experience in the field. Seeing so many seniors coming into the clinic who were either strays, dumped by their owners or needing medical care that they could not receive in their current home, I knew something needed to be done.

We take in owner surrenders, and strays through the local animal services or through a local rescue we work with when their medical care is too much for them to take on. We specialize in palliative care and take in both cats and dogs. We recently expanded our scope to taking in not just seniors but medically challenging cases that will require life long medications or special care.

Last year alone, the medical expenses added up to $20,000 not including food, litter or other supplies.

Our goal is to raise awareness about senior medicine in the veterinary world and how age is just a number. Our pets are family to us, and we strive daily to do everything we can to help them live their best, most comfortable lives, however long that may be.

To date, we have helped over 40 seniors/rescues receive the care they needed!

Our goal with Go Fund Me is to help cover some of the ongoing medical costs that it takes to look after all of our rescues. Anything that can be donated to our amazing cause will be put to great use and highly appreciated.
