Help Charlotte rebuild her life!

Thank you for helping us reach our goal! We've just upped it again as it sadly turns out Mike will not be able to attend neuro-rehab or go home with Charlotte. Please see Charlotte's most recent update and join me in offering Charlotte and Mike your heartfelt wishes at this loss in their lives.

Mike (who Charlotte lovingly refers to as her Viking) has been building an amazing home on Salt Spring Island for him and Charlotte to live in. On September 11, Mike fell 30 feet from the roof. Charlotte has been by his side ever since in the Victoria BC General Hospital- which is a long way from their home on Salt Spring Island.

Charlotte is still taking time off work from her job as a grade 7 teacher so she can care, support and advocate for Mike. While kind and generous friends and family have opened their homes to Charlotte, our good friend Bridie thinks Charlotte needs a quiet space of her own and to stay until they can all go home together (and trust me, Bridie's always right)!

In true Viking fashion, Mike is showing improvement each day. He's working hard at learning to walk again, and can do it with the help of a walker. Charlotte has been busy making him smoothies packed with all the best stuff for his healing and recovery, and the medical team has finally approved the removal of his feeding tube. The Doctor's still do not yet know what the future may hold for Mike but Charlotte has been told he will be in the hospital for up to 6 months now. He's come a long way, but there's still much more to go.

In a matter of a moment, Mike and Charlotte's life was turned upside down- and the expenses are already starting to pile up. It is likely they will also incur more costs associated with his care down the road and the travel for rehabilitation and lost income from the work he won't be able to return to.

If you know Charlotte, you know she is a force! She stands up for the people she cares about and is one of the most capable women I know. Today, she and Mike are finding themselves in an awful and unexpected chapter of their lives.
