Charlotte's Story

Donation protected
Houston and Karlee Ward's daughter, Charlotte, was enjoying a summer full of being a fun-loving, sweet girl that liked to swim, ride her bike, and play with her big sister Sophee. Her parents were having thoughts about celebrating her 3rd birthday, starting preschool, and Charlotte taking the next steps in her young life, when a simple fever and trip to the hospital put those thoughts and dreams on hold.

On July 4th, Charlotte Ward was diagnosed with ALL (Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia). The overall prognosis for her is good, as 98% of patients go into remission within the first several weeks and 90% are considered cured after 10 years of being cancer free. With these statistics in mind, the Ward's made the easy, but still painful decision to start treatment right away. Over several weeks, Charlotte began a difficult chemotherapy regimen that caused severe bone pain, loss of mobility in her legs, and many other debilitating side effects. Charlotte recently ended her first (induction) phase of treatment, and things are tracking in her favor. Even though they have received mostly positive news after the initial devastating diagnosis, her overall treatment will still last around 2.5 years.

During this long road ahead, Houston and Karlee will need to take time off of work for treatments, have frequent hospital stays, and will acquire a lot of medical bills. Even with help from their insurance, great doctors treating Charlotte, and the positive diagnosis, one of the most difficult tasks will be the Ward family staying financially stable throughout this process. We are grateful for any contribution you can make and ask that you please share Charlotte's story and continue to pray for her and her family. They say it takes a village and in this case it is no different. Our community is one of the best around and I know that the Ward's are proud to call it home, so let's continue to be there for all of them.

Charlotte is a warrior and will beat this, but the Ward family still has a long road ahead as they discover their new normal. We want to eliminate financial strain on their family during this time and allow Karlee, Houston, and Sophee to focus on Charlotte and her road to recovery.
