Charlotte's Medical Bills & Rehabilitation
Donation protected
On August 24th two-year-old Charlotte Footner was rushed to the Royal Melbourne Children's Hospital (RMCH) by air ambulance following head injuries sustained after being kicked in the head by a horse. She is currently in a serious condition and will remain there for months whilst she learns to move and talk again, there are still many unknowns although her parents are with her round the clock waiting for medical updates.
Charlotte was removed from an induced coma four days after arriving at the RMCH. She has been slowly recovering, although doctors at the RMCH have prepared her parents and family for a long road ahead. Charlotte has sustained significant head and brain trauma which makes her future uncertain; at best, she will spend months in hospital and likely require years of medical treatment, including occupational therapy, speech therapy and specialist physiotherapy equipment.
Charlotte is a bright, bubbly and very intelligent 2-year-old; both she and her parents Brett and Rachel need our support during this tremendously difficult time. The doctors and social workers at the RMCH have been world-class in their support of Charlotte and her family; they continue to provide the best possible medical treatment available. In addition to this, Charlotte's family require financial support for significant costs not covered by Medicare which are ongoing. We do not have the full list of the expenses at this early stage, although we do know that the family will need financial support for the following:
* Ambulance bill for multiple road ambulances and one air ambulance that attended the scene
* Ongoing medical treatment and rehabilitation for Charlotte
* Special equipment, including physiotherapy devices that will need to be fitted into her home.
* Support for Brett and Rachel to remain with Charlotte round the clock for now and the foreseeable future as requested by the RMCH
Charlotte and her family appreciate any and all support, with all funds going towards her medical costs and ongoing care. We will continue to update this page as more information is received.
