The Charlton Heights Odyssey of the Mind team won 1st place at the New York State Tournament on March 23, 2019. The win qualifies this all-girl team of six 4th graders to go to the Odyssey of the Mind World Finals at Michigan State University May 22nd-25th!
The team competed in the classics problem...Leonardo’s Workshop. They were required to create and present a performance that tells an original story about Leonardo da Vinci. The story had to include a patron, who presents a problem to Leonardo in his workshop. Leonardo then had to create an original invention to solve this problem. The problem had to be debunked by a naysayer, but then shown as a commonly used item in modern times. The performance also had to include recreations of three of Leonardo’s famous works. Their solution earned them the prestigious Ranatra Fusca Award at the regional competition.
These girls have been perfecting their creative solution since early October 2018 and they are now fundraising to pay for their trip to Michigan. This is where you come in!
Money raised will be used for the team’s $2500 registration fee, travel to the competition, 4 days of room and board at Michigan State University, team shirts and for the transportation of their set and props. All funds will directly support the six girls and their two coaches.
Odyssey of the Mind is an international creative problem solving competition. Students learn critical thinking skills, problem solving, and teamwork through solving a long term problem during the school year. Thousands of teams throughout the U.S. and 25 countries participate in the program.
