Hi Friends and Family,
I’ll start with this – if this were a movie script, Hollywood wouldn’t buy it. Even they’d say it’s too farfetched.
As some of you may already be aware, the day before Thanksgiving, Rick was diagnosed with colorectal cancer. Thankfully this is very survivable but will require surgery and treatment. Being a cancer survivor myself, I know it’s a long and difficult road to get from here to there. However, before surgery can be scheduled, he still has to undergo a series of tests and scans, etc. to make sure the cancer hasn’t metastasized. In all likelihood surgery may happen just before or after Christmas.
In the midst of this horrible news, our furnace (which is in the attic) sprung a leak and died. We have ceiling and insulation damage that needs to be repaired/painted and the cost of a new furnace isn’t cheap either. We have homeowner’s insurance but that won’t cover a new furnace and then we still need to cover the deductible. We are barely getting by as it is and are in debt up to our eyeballs.
We have our house on the market because it had become a financial hardship since Rick has become disabled (the multiple joint replacements and subsequent persistent related issues) and unable to work full time. SSDI helps but it’s not enough to keep up. With this diagnosis, Rick won’t be able to work even part time for quite a while. His priority needs to be his recovery. Part of his recovery has to be that he isn’t stressed about the inability to help dig us out of this financial hole.
Between moving out of our home and then the market taking a dive, we weren’t able to get the financial relief we were looking for. Apparently, that was only the beginning of this entire series of unfortunate events.
If our house doesn’t sell before our contingent offer on the other home lapses this week, we’ll be moving back in, so Rick has a comfortable place to heal. Couch surfing with family just isn’t going to cut it.
On top of all of this, we’ll have medical debt mounting too.
As much as we don’t want to ask, we are very much in need of your help. If you are able to donate even a little, we would be very grateful. If you think it would be helpful, please share with others who may be able to give us a hand.
We love each and every one of you and are grateful to have you in our circle.
Much Love,
Michele and Rick
