Chase Obrien's Medical Journey

Very few families can relate to the immeasurable sudden and tragic journey that has just started for 5-year-old Chase O’Brien, and his parent’s Eric and Jessica O’Brien. Chase just started Kindergarten in August of this year. He is an active, beautiful, and smart young man with a bright future ahead of him. Last week Jessica and Eric received the devastating news that their son had a brain tumor that required emergency surgery. This is every parent’s worst nightmare. Chase had surgery last week and a wonderful team of doctors were able to remove 70% of the large tumor that was growing in the middle of his brain, pushing onto his brain stem. Chase has a long road ahead of him for recovery. He is more than likely looking at more surgery, and an extensive line of treatment in the near future.
As we all can imagine, the family is physically and emotionally drained. Eric and Jessica have been by his side day and night, making very difficult decisions about the care of their only son. We as a community feel their pain and have a strong desire to make things better. Anyone who knows Eric and Jessica knows that they are always the first to jump in and help anyone who needs it, and this is the time to show them the love and support that they have shown to all of us at some time. The world is a better place because of this family.
As Christians, we know that God can make a way where there seems to be no way. We also know we are called to love and serve our neighbors as we would ourselves. We are called to help those in need. With God all things are possible, and everything works for the good of those who love him and are called according to His purpose.
So together with God’s blessings, we can help the O’Brien family make a way. Some of this can be accomplished in ways no amount of money can buy – by simply offering our time, support, love, and prayers. In addition, through GoFundMe, we can join together to help make a way by minimizing or eliminating some of the financial stress and pressures that inevitably accompany their difficult transition that lies ahead.
Eric is a longtime employee of the City of Salem Parks and Recreation Department. We are organizing this fundraiser out of love for Eric, Jessica, and Chase. So together with God's blessing we can help the O’Briens find their way.
While we cannot do anything physically to help Chase through this horrible chapter, but we can help the Obrien's financially to ease the burden a little, and lessen the pressure, so they can continue to concentrate on getting the best care possible for Chase.
