CHASM an immersive dance theater and sound event
Donation protected
Dear community,
We humbly ask for support in producing our upcoming evening-length performance, CHASM, at TurnPark Art Space. This event, curated by Fern Katz, will include two contemporary dance pieces, live violin, and a Q+A with the artists.
Exploring themes of grief, loss, reflection, reconciliation, and healing, the artists ask questions pertinent to humanity's contemporary struggles. Set to an original violin composition by Mariya Vasileuskaya, the performances will immerse the audience into the artists' journeys.
By donating to this campaign, you will support performance and travel stipends for the performers, food costs to nourish the artists and crew during performance weekend, and salaries for the rest of the team (photographer and videographer stipends).
A bit about the choreographers...
Fern Katz is a freelance dancer and choreographer working in Berkshire County and New York City. She will be in residence at Performact in Portugal beginning fall 2022.
She choreographed (in collaboration with the performing artists) her latest work Shmita (release) in the wake of her mother's death. While this piece explores her personal and individual journey with loss, she finds that the themes are universal and that everyone has their own story. As the world burns and humans, animals, and plants are lost due to illness, environmental catastrophe, economic injustice and food insecurity, she imagines a world where healing and growth can come from scorched earth. This piece was made with the support, creativity, and generosity of Alice Chacon, Anna Gichan, Sierra Hendrix, Elisa Hernandez, Leighann Kowalsky, and Katie Messina.
Sierra Hendrix is an NYC-based dance artist. She will present her recent solo, Head On, which was made in the fall of 2021 from the support of the ‘Triskelion Arts' Space Subsidy program supported by the New York State Council on the Arts. This is concussion solo 1.
Thank you for your consideration and support!
