Chaviss Mobley's Fight Against Kidney Failure
Donation protected
Hi, I am Chaviss Mobley, 38 yrs old, and I have been diagnosed with stage 5 end- term kidney disease. Since May of this year, I started to feel sick while losing a lot of weight. A couple of weeks ago I ended up in the emergency room. After several tests, it was determined that I have kidney failure.
On Thursday, June 15th, I had surgery at Mount Sinai in which a tube was attached to my stomach. This way I will receive my PD dialysis treatment. I am starting with two weekly treatments of dialysis and will then receive three a week. Eventually, I will do dialysis every day from my home. I will need 5 years of dialysis in order to become a kidney donor recipient.
During these past few weeks, I have been out of work as a custodian at North Beach Elementary School. Thankfully, I have been able to use my sick days, but they will run out soon and I do not have any long- or short-term disability. My medical copays and deductibles are high as they are quickly adding up. I can no longer work two jobs. I’ve worked at North Beach Elementary for 17 years, Mount Sinai Hospital, and lost my third job because I was feeling so sick. I will be placed on light duty and possibly reduced work hours.
I am so grateful for my 12-year-old daughter, family and friends who have been with me during this difficult time. I appreciate all your phone calls, well wishes and prayers. Any donations are a blessing and very much appreciated. Thank you and God Bless.
