Help Chayse fund a diabetes alert dog
Donation protected
Chayse was a happy and healthy 6 year old boy when he was suddenly diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes - a lifelong condition. As a result, he needs multiple daily insulin injections just to keep him alive. He’s since moved to an insulin pump and wears a blood glucose monitor to continuously measure his blood glucose levels.
Chayse has had diabetes for nearly 4 years now and is turning 11 years old this year. A diabetes alert dog would be an amazing assistance to Chayse as he does not feel any symptoms when his blood sugar becomes high or low, which can be life threatening. As a result of not feeling symptoms, he relies heavily on technology to alert him, which has a time lag of 5-10 minutes. He doesn’t wake at night to his pump alarms, causing many sleepless nights for his family. Diabetes alert dogs are trained to alert when blood sugar levels are becoming dangerously low.
There are many costs involved in obtaining an alert dog totally $7000. These include but not limited to:
- Specialised alert training through PAWS for Diabetics
- Cost of puppy
- puppy preschool
- obedience training
- immunisations, desexing
Any donations to assist Chayse in obtaining a diabetes alert dog would be greatly appreciated as diabetes is not recognised for funding by NDIS.
