Cheer Camp on Campus

I started this campaign two years ago, and we are still working toward our goal! We are fundraising in several ways, and this is the year it is going to happen!

The cheerleaders at Detroit Leadership Academy High School have successfully completed four competitive cheer seasons since the school was opened in 2013. The girls have proven themselves to be dedicated to both cheerleading and their academic success. Because of their high level of commitment to school and cheer, I am working hard to get them to cheerleading camp this summer.  Most of my students' families need some help covering the $315 per person cost of camp. Cheer camp will help my cheerleaders for so many reasons.

Camp this summer will take place at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor from August 1-3. The girls will stay in college dorm rooms for two nights and get the whole on-campus experience, including eating in the cafeteria and using community bathrooms! I believe this campus experience will propel not only their cheerleading goals, but help them to envision themselves as college studetns as well.

Additionally, cheerleading camp will help the girls bond as a team. I really enjoy getting to see these young ladies work hard together and celebrate the accomplishments of their teammates at cheer practice and competitions. This camp experience will help bond the 2017-2018 DLA cheer team as a family, which will get them through both the cheer season and the school year.

Cheer camp will also help develop the girls' cheerleading skills so they can experience success at competitions next year. While they have improved every year, we want to make some big strides this year, as we move into the varsity category and work toward our goal of qualifying for the state championship.
