Chelle's New Cancer Fight Needs Your Support

I am a Los Angeles visual artist who has been challenged with Stage 4 metastatic breast cancer.

During the COVID pandemic, I was diagnosed with stage 4 metastatic breast cancer. The disease had spread to my kidneys, lungs, and scapula, and a significant tumor fractured my vertebrae, jeopardizing my mobility. After a rigorous two-year course of chemotherapy, infusion therapy, and hormone treatments, I was beating cancer! Then, in 2022, within months of being in remission, PET scan results showed that cancer had spread to my liver. Since that time, I’ve been taking targeted medications that has been instrumental in my ongoing fight. Despite its side effects, I’ve been thriving.

Last week, the results from my half-year PET scan uncovered two treatment-resistant tumors—one at my appendix surgery site and one on my liver, which is aggressive. I awaiting the results of my liver biopsy to determine the whether the tumors are breast cancer cells, appendiceal cancer cells, or a combination of both. I'm also waiting to hear the results of my DNA test that will help pinpoint the origin of the tumors. The test will predict future cancer growths, and guide my oncologist in treatment options, including a new panel of challenging tests and treatment regimen(s). This is a critical moment in my cancer journey, and your support is more important than ever.

My journey has been one of profound transformation over the past four years, filled with moments of fear, gratitude and happiness despite the challenges. I have never stopped working and creating art, and allocating all my resources to obtaining the best cancer care available at Keck USC.
