Chemo and Radiation bills
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Kristina and I am trying to help raise money for my mom, Nancy Kunkle. January, 2022 the Doctors found a fibroid on my mom’s uterus. They gave her some options of either having a DNC (which would be more painful than just doing a hysterectomy), having a simple hysterectomy (which doesn’t include taking out and extra margin of wall lining), or having a radical hysterectomy which would clear extra margins (but the doctor said he really didn’t think it was cancer and that wouldn’t really be necessary). So my mom decided to have the simple hysterectomy done. Insurance has been a pain to deal with, and has left my parents paying for 30% of everything up front! They have had to pull from my dad’s 401k, sell their Harley’s and penny pinch to be able to afford the treatments she needs. After her hysterectomy on March 19th, the doctors met with her to let her know they found a mass on the bottom of her uterus next to her cervix and told her it was uterine cancer. They told her she would have to have a port put in her chest (which was a nightmare I will explain below), undergo Chemo in Albuquerque every 21 days (which is a 3 hour drive both ways) and then follow up with 27 sessions of radiation (every day of the week excluding Saturdays and Sundays)
When my mom went to Mountain View Hospital to arrange to have her port put in, she had to pay $14,000 up front (this was paid using my dad’s 401K) when she went in for surgery, apparently the doctor that was supposed to do it was not there and someone else stepped in. They did not sedate her and placed it so superficially that it hurt all the time it was in. She screamed during the procedure and they told her it should just feel like a bee sting. They didn’t numb her or give her any medication to help. When she went to Chemo it wore her down, she lost her hair, appetite and most of her energy. Bills are still rolling in from Chemo and she has mentioned how overwhelmed she feels and that everything they have has to go to paying those medical bills. She is in the middle of going to radiation right now, yesterday she had her 16th treatment. They gave her a self pay discount if she paid in full, so instead of paying $26,000 they charged her $6,000.
My mom is the type of lady, that if you know her, you love her! She has a beautiful spirit and is always happy and smiling. My mom is my best friend, and it has been so hard to watch her go through this, and seeing her cry and try to stay strong for my dad. Please, if you find it in your heart to help her with the bills that are coming in, would you please give? And if you aren’t able to help financially, would you take a moment to pray for her to have strength and health?
Thank you so much for your help and your prayers.
