I'm Kate and I'm dying

I'm not just saying that to tug on your heart strings. I'm saying that to get you ready for the story you're about to consume.

I've made posts about my struggle before. If any of you know what dealing with medical coverage in the U.S. is like, you know it's a nightmare. Even if you're a little bit healthy, it can be a major pain in the ass.

If you're near terminal, or especially terminal, you're pretty much screwed unless you're Magic Johnson or Bill Gates.

To add even more to the life giving me sour lemons, my husband is a teacher, working two jobs to support me and our two kids.

I'm constantly going from doctor to doctor, doing what I'm told, and never given full on answers. (Honestly a lot of this is new territory for us, as well.)

I'm asking you to read my story. Look at my social medias. Learn about me, befriend me. Please, help spread this campaign. Even if you can't donate, just a simple share helps spread the word.

It's hard for me to ask for help, but for those of you who have been following my story you know we have exhausted everything before getting to this point. If you are seeing this post and my page for the first time let me introduce myself. I am Kate, I am 31 and fighting terminal cancer. I have two small children and a husband who is doing everything he can (working two jobs, teaching high school during the day and working at the Art Institute at night, but not getting paid for the latter yet, and maybe not ever - read more to understand why this is happening) Hes doing everything to keep our family afloat and me alive. I appreciate you taking the time to come and read my story... I do urge you to take a few moments and check my social media. I have been very open and honest about my situation. You can even view an article written by Kent University - Centre for Journalism Here

I appreciate you taking the time to learn about me and my family. Please, share this if you can. Donate if you're able. Thank you for giving me a moment of your time.

Why my husband isn't getting paid -
If you have kept up with the news for Las Vegas in the last few months you have probably heard about The Art Institute of Las Vegas (AI) being bought to try and prevent its closure. The Art Institute of Las Vegas was granted another stay of execution after a state board gave the school’s new owners more time to complete their purchase and gather documents necessary to renew its license to operate. The school will be expected to meet certain requirements, including providing an update on the purchase at the commission’s November meeting... Well unfortunately it is looking like AI and the lined up investors have not been able to come to an agreement and the school lost accreditation

So you maybe wondering why this is important to my cause...

You see, as most of you know, over two years ago I was diagnosed with cancer. Primary cerebral lymphoma to be exact. My husband and I did what needed to be done. I was forced to quit working as doctors appointments took up a majority of my time. For 2 years we spent every dime we had on medical treatments and hospital bills. My husband took countless days off to help me when I was too ill to get out of bed.

My husband is a full-time highschool teacher for the CCSD. In the summer of 2019 he was offered to teach night classes a few days a week at AI. While he was aware that he wouldn't get paid until the pending sale was complete he was told that they had an investor in place and it would only be about a month or so before he could start expecting a regular paycheck. 6, 8, 10 weeks passed and there continued to be hiccups in the pending sale leaving my husband working a second job without pay... At this point other teachers started to leave, but my husband couldnt abandon his students mid semester with good conscious. Now we are out the 14k that AI owes him. We have filed with the labor board and included ourselves in the lawsuit with all the other un-payed employees but we may still never see a dime.

While he has his day job, it's only enough to cover our current bills and leaves us with very little to pay off years of medical debt, not to mention any additional needs that may come up. The plan was that he would work for both CCSD and AI for the 2019-2020 school year. The extra income would be enough to pay off all our debt acquired over the last 2 years plus allow for us to save a little for my upcoming treatments and hopefully operation. But now we are left wondering what to do.

My husband working two jobs was a strain on me and my health as well. I was left most days to care for the kids on my own but as I grew sicker and sicker I could no longer do the things I used to. My husband worked 60+ hours a week to ensure that I can get the treatments I need and that our kids have a good stable life but he may not see a dime of the money that hes owed for the classes he picked up at AI. All this extra work, extra stress, extra strain could all be for nothing.

I am not getting any better and I have multiple potential surgeries and treatments upcoming. Some of which will require my husband to take time off, time and money we can't afford

We have done everything to try and stay afloat, my husband is exhausted from working so many hours and I can't provide financially to our situation. We are close to our breaking point. This is why I have turned to crowdfunding. If we could pay off some of the debt we have occurred over the last 2 years we would be able to get a personal loan to help cover the rest, but right now our debt to income is too high and we are just robbing Peter to pay Paul. The financial burden has just become too much for us to bare on our own.

I have applied for disability, however that can take anywhere from 8-10 months, and I don't think we will be able to survive that long without some help.

Thank you again for taking the time to learn about me and my family. Please, share this if you can. Donate if you're able. Thank you for giving me a moment of your time.
