Chemo for Meatball: Beloved and Magical Lion
Donation protected
Hello! I'm Meatball, a 13 year-old tabby cat. My interests include being handsome, soft surfaces, cheese, sitting in the window to keep watch over the alley behind my home, letting bugs live, staring, yelling at my human to get out of the shower, making friends with almost everyone I meet, and being carried around on my human's shoulders like a particularly robust mink.
On March 16th, 2019, my human Danielle discovered a large lump on the side of my neck. A couple days later we went to see my vet and had the lump aspirated and sent out for further testing.
On March 20th, my vet called my human with upsetting news: I have large cell lymphoma in my left mandibular lymph node. Lymphoma is a common and treatable cancer of the immune system but because I am unique in most things, the way in which my lymphoma presented itself is uncommon in cats and particularly aggressive. Without further treatment, my prognosis is ~4-6 weeks.
After my diagnosis, my human and I had a consultation with an amazing veterinary oncologist who was tremendously helpful and informative about potential treatment options. My human wants to give me as many happy and healthy days as possible and will do everything she can for me, which I appreciate, as I am deeply accustomed to this degree of consideration and care.
The recommended treatment is a chemotherapy protocol that will require weekly treatments for up to 19 weeks. This protocol has a high rate of remission and we believe it is the best option for me at this time. I will also be on prednisone (steroids) while receiving chemo, which will help me maintain my appetite and feel better overall.
As you might imagine, the cost of chemotherapy is quite high. I have been recently informed that our household is not in possession of boundless means, but with careful budgeting my human will be able to cover ~1/2 of the estimated cost. However, additional support is needed, so we are reaching out to my many friends (and/or fans) via this campaign.
If you're reading this, you may be aware that my human is as stubborn and proud as I am. Asking for help is not among her strengths or inclinations, which is why I am writing this for her, with the assistance of an additional human.
Thank you for any contribution you are able to give, whether by donating or by sharing this link to those who may be able to donate as well. All funds raised will go toward my medical care.
As I undergo treatment, my human will post updates here to keep you all in the loop about how I'm doing.
Love and nose nuzzles,
Meatball Magellan
