Helping out a medical journey
Eight months ago my wife and I quit our jobs and uprooted our toddler’s life to move to Mexico on a dream ... only to find out I have cancer. My daughter loves her life in small-town Mexico and fits in so well. Uprooting her life again, giving up our dreams, quitting our jobs and struggling to find new jobs in the United States, all seem like awful options, but the cancer doctors in my home state of Pennsylvania are better than those in Mexico. So for now a return to the states seems like the best idea (though if we can figure out a way to stay in Mexico and be healthy, we will). But we’re coming back to the United States with nothing—a savings already depleted by doctors bills, no jobs, no place to live ...
I can’t stop thinking of things I’ll miss out on if I don’t make it, like my daughter’s high school graduation. But I am also really sad that whether I live or die, she’s going to be starting life in debt in a country that isn’t exactly known for being kind to its poor folks. I’ll obviously be doing everything I can to prevent that: getting Medicaid, writing grants, working my ass off. But I know I’m still going to need help. Please help me pay for my medical bills to keep her from a life locked into debt.
Thanks for considering the time to donate to helping keep our dreams from falling apart.
